Kidsafe WA with the support of the Department of Health is conducting a Seasonal Child Injury Prevention Program designed to highlight the different injury risks to children throughout the year. The program intends to raise awareness of parents, guardians, child care workers and health workers regarding child injury and to provide them with simple steps to keep kids safe.

The Seasonal Child Injury Prevention Program is a targeted campaign that focuses on seasonal injury issues across the four quarters of each year.

• Spring - September to November 2007: Childhood Poisoning Prevention
• Summer - December 2007 to February 2008: Holiday Safety
• Autumn - March to May 2008: Falls Prevention
• Winter - June to August 2008: Burn and Scald Prevention 

Each season a multilevel campaign is run that focuses around the corresponding injury issue. This entails radio, newspaper, magazine and internet advertising, as well as the development of various resources. Mail-outs of both the new and existing resources will be sent to groups such as child health nurses, health promotion officers, General Practitioners, playgroups and childcare centres, libraries, sporting, community and recreational centres. Health professionals will also be able to request material such as CD-ROMs and session plans to enable power-point presentations on each seasonal injury issue.

To support the media promotions and mail-outs, Kidsafe WA will conduct educational workshops and seminars in metropolitan and rural communities. These intend to raise awareness of child safety and provide attendants with the knowledge and skills to prevent child injury. Each component of the Seasonal Child Injury Prevention Program will include materials and resources that are appropriate for - or specifically designed for - CALD, Indigenous, rural and remote communities.
