Kidsafe WA in the Pilbara

In April, the Kidsafe WA team visited the Pilbara region to deliver child injury prevention workshops, incursions, and child car restraint services. Throughout the week, our team travelled from Karratha to Port Hedland, delivering 4 incursions to 92 primary school students and 5 workshops to 47 parents, carers and professionals. While delivering workshops, we connected with local schools and organisations, including Karratha Community House, Gumula Aboriginal Corporation, and Millars Well Primary School. These connections are valuable to our team as they help us ensure our services are suitable for the needs of the communities we work with.

On the final day of our visit, our team held a free child car restraint checking session thanks to support from the Town of Port Hedland. Our Child Car Restraint Technician checked over 16 restraints during the session to ensure they were fitted and adjusted correctly. This was also an opportunity to provide parents and carers with simple steps they can take to ensure their children are travelling safely on every trip.

This visit was made possible with support from the Department of Health WA and Horizon Power. Our long-standing partnerships help our team reach many regional families and communities to spread important injury prevention messaging. Safety messages are particularly important for communities in regional WA as they typically have less access to services and may have to travel long distances to access emergency treatment for injuries and accidents. With Horizon Power being a supporter of our north WA travel, our team raises awareness of the common causes of electrical injury and provides practical steps to reduce the risk of accidents in and around the home.

Kidsafe WA would like to thank the Department of Health WA, Horizon Power and the Town of Port Hedland for their support of this visit. If you are interested in having Kidsafe WA visit your region, please complete an expression of interest form here: www.kidsafewa.com.au/regional-visits/
