In mid-October, Anita Tsvetkov, our Program Manager of Product Safety, attended the Safe Kids Worldwide Childhood Injury Prevention Convention (PrevCon). Held every two years in the United States of America, PrevCon is organised by Safe Kids Worldwide.
Safe Kids Worldwide is a not-for-profit organisation working to reduce unintentional injuries to children between zero and 19 years old and build sustainable systems that support injury prevention. Safe Kids works with strategic partners and more than 400 coalitions across the U.S., while supporting a worldwide alliance of like-minded organisations, like Kidsafe Australia, in more than 20 countries.
This year’s PrevCon was held in Washington, DC, from the 15th to the 18th of October 2025 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Centre, National Harbor, Maryland. It is the largest gathering of safety professionals from all around the world dedicated to the prevention of unintentional childhood injuries. It convenes leading experts, advocates, academic researchers, health care providers, manufacturers, public health practitioners, educators, and policymakers with the aim of increasing our collective impact.
Anita attended PrevCon, representing Kidsafe Australia, and presented on Button Battery Safety in Australia. Anita’s presentation provided an overview of the work that has been done nationally to reduce the risk of button battery injuries to children. Over the years, Australia has taken significant action by improving product safety standards and increasing community awareness of injury risks for children.
Attending PrevCon gave Kidsafe Australia the opportunity to share our learnings internationally and to:
- expand our knowledge of childhood injury prevention by learning from leading experts in the field;
- engage in discussions on solutions that prioritise child safety;
- strengthen our understanding of evidence-based prevention strategies;
- network with professionals from around the world; and
- finally, be part of a child safety movement focused on action.
Thank you, Safe Kids Worldwide, for hosting another successful PrevCon and for welcoming Kidsafe Australia to be part of the global movement to create a safer world for children. We look forward to attending the next PrevCon!
