National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is currently underway across Australia, with this year’s theme All In, encouraging all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day. Held each year from 27th May to 3rd June, NRW is a time to learn more about Australia’s history, listen to First Nations voices and reflect on the relationships we build within our workplaces and communities.
Last week, the Kidsafe WA team came together to watch the National Reconciliation Breakfast, live streamed from Optus Stadium. This annual event provides an opportunity for our team to hear from Aboriginal leaders in our community and reflect on what our reconciliation work looks like in practice throughout the year.

As an organisation working within the WA community to prevent childhood injury, we are committed to working alongside Aboriginal families and community groups across the state. This involves taking time to build relationships, understand community priorities, identifying key child injury risks, and adapting our programs to better meet local needs.
This year, we are taking the next step in developing an Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan to guide our work. As part of this process, we welcome input from Aboriginal community members, organisations and partners who may wish to contribute. If you are part of an Aboriginal organisation, school or community group in WA and are interested in partnering with Kidsafe WA to deliver child injury prevention programs, please contact out team on (08) 6244 4880 or kidsafe@kidsafewa.com.au.
As NRW continues, we encourage everyone to get involved not only this week, but all throughout the year. This can be attending a local event, supporting First Nations businesses, listening to First Nations stories or podcasts, or learning more about the history of where you live and work.
Kidsafe WA are honoured to have operated on Whadjuk Noongar land over the past 40 years. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land here in Boorloo and throughout Western Australia, where our vision, purpose and values extend.
