Kidsafe WA Walk for Reconciliation at Galup

Last month, the Kidsafe WA team joined thousands of others on the annual Walk for Reconciliation, organised by Reconciliation WA. With the original walk delayed due to weather, our team was grateful for the opportunity to come together on a sunny afternoon in support of reconciliation.

Galup (previously known as Lake Monger) is a popular community area with many visitors throughout the year. The area also carries significant cultural and historical significance for Whadjuk Noongar people, being a key meeting place for Aboriginal people for thousands of years before colonisation. To learn more about the history of Galup, visit www.samedrum.com/galup.

Participating in the Walk for Reconciliation and learning about the history of the lands that we live and work on is an important part of our work at Kidsafe WA. As an organisation that operates on Whadjuk Noongar Country, we are committed to walking alongside Aboriginal communities and to support reconciliation action through our child injury prevention programs.

As we head into the final weeks of the year, our team is also working to develop our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Moving to an Innovate RAP will allow us to further strengthen relationships with Aboriginal communities across WA and to embed reconciliation principles into our core business. As we begin this process, we invite any individuals, Aboriginal community members, and like-minded organisations to get in touch if they are interested in contributing to our RAP development. To get involved or to provide consultation, please email kidsafe@kidsafewa.com.au.

Once again, we thank Reconciliation WA for another great event and the reminder that reconciliation action happens all year round. To see how you can get involved as an individual or through your organisation, check out the resources available through Reconciliation WA’s website or social media channels.
